ADL Decries Gunshot Reportedly Fired at Orland Park Mosque

Chicago, Illinois, March 26, 2014….. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today decried the gunshot that was reportedly fired at the Prayer Center of Orland Park during its call to prayer at approximately 6:00 am on Tuesday morning. A single bullet allegedly struck the gold metal dome, stunning the worshipers.

“We deplore this despicable act of violence which sends a chilling message to the entire community,” said Lonnie Nasatir, ADL Regional Director.  “A mosque is a sacred space.  We applaud law enforcement for investigating this act as a potential hate crime and we hope that the perpetrator(s) will be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

ADL has long been at the forefront of national and state efforts to deter and counteract bias-motivated criminal activity.

The Anti-Defamation League, founded in Chicago in 1913, is the world’s leading organization fighting anti-Semitism through programs and services that counteract hatred, prejudice, and bigotry.
